A proposal is in the works to create a sidewalk leading to JL Newbern Middle School.
It would run from the intersection on East Park Avenue to Forrest Street.
The project would cost $500,000 and be paid for by the Georgia Department of Transportation's "Safe Routes to School" grant.
Parents say it's much-needed.
"There's a lot of traffic and not everybody has transportation," said Edna Davis, who's 11-year-old daughter attends the school. "There's a lot of traffic and not everybody has transportation. A lot of people do walk to and from school. And I just think it's a great idea."
The application deadline to apply for the grant is November 23.
