Adel, Georgia - June 7, 2011

Annie Grant watched her family clean out her home after it was ravaged by a severe thunderstorm Monday night.

"Seeing it like this right here, all tore up," says Grant, 48, as she wiped away tears, surrounded by her children. "We've been trying to put the pieces back together."

Just after 7 p.m., a tree came crashing through her bedroom window.

"The tree fell," says Grant. "Then me and my grand baby, we fell to the floor. And then we crawled to the living room."

Fierce winds, lightning and hail tore through Adel.

Lightning struck this vacant doctor's office igniting a fire which took firefighters all night to extinguish.

"The flames were contained inside the building, which made it actually harder to fight the fire because you wouldn't get to it," says Rick Lipscomb, an EMT for Cook County.

Eight businesses were heavily damaged.

At Cook County Ford, an awning draped over brand new trucks.

And as downed umbrellas lined Diggity Dogs' outdoor seating area, part of its roof laid bent on the sidewalk.

Eyewitness Ullax Irshad says, "A roof on top and one is truck on road and he's also scared because the roof is going on his truck."

Still, you get the sense that in time, maybe in quite a while, this community will be okay.

"It makes me feel bad, but I know God is good," says Grant. "You know and he'll see me through it."

Miss Annie says after living in her home for 11 years, she's sad to relocate across town.

And Cook County emergency management officials say it'll take two to three weeks to clean up the aftermath of the storm.
