ATLANTA – A Waffle House worker in Valdosta is savoring a juicy prize from the Georgia Lottery. Anthony Hodge Jr. won a $100,000 top prize playing the new instant game Jumbo Bucks Crossword.

“I’m so excited,” the 29-year-old exclaimed while claiming his prize recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton. “I kept having dreams that flashed, ‘Big Winner!’”

Hodge said he was led to Oak Food Mart, 500 N. Oak St. in Valdosta, where he purchased his lucky ticket.

“I almost passed out,” the father of two said. “I checked the ticket 20 times.”

With shaky hands and a fast-beating heart, Hodge called his mother, sister and cousin to share the good news.

“I am a witness that dreams do come true,” he explained. “It kept running through my mind, and now I am more than happy.”

The lucky winner anticipates using his winnings to catch up on his personal affairs.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
