February is National Spay and Neuter month and staff at the humane society are promoting awareness locally with their "Spay/Neuter Thomasville" program.

The Humane Society says many unwarranted cases of euthanasia can be prevented by putting pets through the routine procedure.

Executive Director of the Humane Society, Ed Williams, explains:

"We're always trying to increase our adoption numbers, but also decrease the number of animals that are coming in ... and the best way to do that is to encourage everyone to spay and neuter their pets."

Several Thomasville veterinarians have teamed up with the Humane Society and are offering spay and neuter services at a reduced cost through the end of February.

The new reduced costs are $50 for cats, and $70 for dogs. These prices will be effective with participating vets through early March.

To make an appointment for spaying or neutering, or for information on adoption, call the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society at 229-228-0613.
