Thomasville, GA- Longtime coroner Sam Brown is facing off against longtime businessman Don Shiver in the race for Thomas County Coroner.
Brown has held the position for 32 years and Shiver has owned a funeral home in town since 1995.
Both candidates say they're the man for the job.
"I have 44 years experience in the Mortuary of Science field and along with that I have 32 years of education and training in the death investigation aspect of Mortuary Science," said Brown.
"I've been in the death care industry for 30 years and worked with families for 17 years one on one, helping them through the difficult times and making an unbearable time, more bearable," said Shiver.
Brown says over the years he has developed tight relationships with the people of Thomas County and that makes him relatable.
"My thought about being coroner is, we serve the dead, we speak for the dead and we serve the survivors of that situation, no matter whether the death be natural causes, accidental, homicide or suicide," said Brown.
Shiver says his experience as funeral director makes him more empathetic with people who are going through the grieving process.
"I want to just be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and I want to be able to handle the job with dignity and respect the deceased and the family also," he said.
Voters will decide on November 6th.
