Lowndes County schools is asking parents to donate old, unwanted or broken items to its Green School Recycling Fundraiser.

These include cell phones, laptops, MP3 players, eReaders and jewelry to name a few.

Money raised goes toward buying glasses, school supplies and medicine for its neediest children.

"These are students who otherwise wouldn't have the glasses they need to see the board, or if they have an ear infection aren't able to get the medicine that they need to help overcome that," said Sandra Wilcher, the social services coordinator for Lowndes County schools. "And you're able to help students you may never know."

Anyone can drop off these items at Two Friends restaurant in Valdosta Thursday at noon, and at the Lowndes County Board of Education throughout the year.

For more information contact Sandra Wilcher at (229) 316-1865.
