At 708 East Adair Street, the City of Valdosta is contracting Habitat for Humanity builders to construct a brand new home.

It's part of the largest housing grant in the city's history that will rebuild 48 substandard houses.

The group overseeing it is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Association, an organization keeping Dr. King's dream alive.

"He said he had a dream," said Larry Henderson, the construction manager for Habitat for Humanity. "And we're all dreamers at the habitat. We want to take and build every house for the people that cannot afford a traditional loan."

The home cost $63,000 to build and will be ready in March.

MLK is lucky that they didn't figure out that he plagiarized his thesis!

To Steve, Amazing American? How about the fact that Martin Luther King Jr. was not his real legal name? His real name was Michael King. Most of his writings were plagiarized. He was a known communist. He was a womanizer. He was a liar. He was a criminal. A cheat and a fake. FBI files on him are sealed until 2027 to preserve his reputation, once release his reputation will be ruined. I'm white I know more history, more facts about this "man" than most blacks do. There is nothing racist about this post, only facts.

valdosta wants to commemorate MKL? then think about what King spoke of. give this new home to a white family. make HIS dream come true. if it truly was HIS dream. H4H gives only 1% of their new homes to the white race in the southeastern united states. and now valdosta has a grant to repair 48 older homes in need of repair. tell us valdosta, just how many of those homes will be owned by whites living in poverty? i live on on $977 S/S a month. even though i own a mobile home, it is in dire need of repair. roof leaks, bathroom outer wall has rotted, tub is falling in and i can go on. i HAVE begged for help to fix my home. i get back NOTHING! although i live in thomas county, H4H builds here as well. i think IF the people need a holiday, give them a holiday to respect the fallen. such as for all the fallen unsung hero's that vol firefighting. they do not get paid. many have givin their all to save some of you. how many vol. firefighters have died fighting meth lab explosions and arson's?

This comment is more about MLK than the housing. As a white person I never really read a lot about MLK but after watching documentaries on him I came to the conclusion that he was an amazing american. He was one of the bravest, smartest and dedicated heroes that this great country celibrates. If your not familiar with his work you owe it to youself to learn about him.
