Republican Roy Barnes arrived at Valdosta High School in a city school bus to symbolize his commitment to education.
If elected governor, Barnes says he'd make it his top priority.
He says funding for direct instruction and teacher salaries would not be compromised.
"It is one that absolutely we should have no objection to," said Barnes. " We should have a common goal of restoring education to the top of our entire funding process."
Barnes served as the Governor of Georgia from 1999 to 2003.
