Rumored Facebook Post About Shooting At Local High School Causes Panic

Bainbridge, GA- The parking lot at Bainbridge High School was flooded with concerned parents Friday morning.

The panic came shortly after word got out that somebody had posted on Facebook that they were going to shoot up the school.

"I was very scared and didn't know what was going on, so I was just trying to get out of here as fast as I could, you know, to see what was going on and we were calling and wasn't getting any answers and texting the kids, and we weren't getting responses back," said parent April Willingham.

School officials say they took necessary safety precautions, but assured parents that there was no need to worry.

"We were never able to pinpoint the origin of the true content of the Facebook post, so really all we had was hearsay," said Dr. Fred Rayfield, the Decatur County Schools Superindentient.

Still, parents say just the possibility of a threat was too close for comfort.

"I cannot stop thinking about Sandy Hook, and I take things like that very seriously, so having two teens out there at Bainbridge High School, to hear about that, is nothing a parent would want to hear," said Tiffany Marshall-Thomas.

"That one time that you don't take it seriously, could be the one time that things happen," added parent Stephanie Barlow.

The school was not placed on a lockdown and classes continued as usual for those students who stayed.
