Thomasville, GA- The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society has launched a new spay and neuter program called, "SNIP Thomasville."

SNIP will allow people in the community with lower incomes to qualify for spay and neuter services at a reduced rate.

Organizers say to apply for the program, you just have to stop by the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society and show proper documentation.

"It can be a tax return, a food stamp card; there's several qualifications and the ladies there are trained to evaluate that, and see if they can sign up for the program," said Beckey Malphus, a veterinary at Clanton-Malphus-Hodges Veterinary Hospital in Thomasville and a humane society board member.

Malphus said if you do qualify for the program, you will then receive a certificate to present to one of the participating veterinarian hospitals in the area.

The reduced spay and neuter rates will be $50 for cats and $70 for dogs, which offer participants a savings of more than 50% as the average spay/neuter costs can range anywhere from $100-$150 for cats and $165-$370 for dogs.

The Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society is located at 180 Big Star Drive, Thomasville, Georgia 31757.
