South Georgia Teachers Get Free School Supplies

Valdosta, Georgia - August 5, 2011 -

Teachers across south Georgia can get school supplies for free!

Teachers' Harvest in Valdosta has everything from pens and pencils to backpacks and flash cards.

Educators say it's a terrific way to offset costs for both themselves and students who can't afford supplies.

"Many times I do try to get things out of my own pocket and you know you just don't have it," says Louis Burns, a science teacher at Berrien County High School. "Sometimes it take a while to go through all the channels to get what you need, that you may need tomorrow!"

Director Sokanya Lanh says, "We think this program is very important to the teachers because the economy, what we are in now. And teachers get some money to offset supplies and now they don't get those monies for their supplies anymore."

Teachers can collect supplies at Teachers' Harvest Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Teacher's Harvest of South Georgia welcomes all teachers in a 10 county area to get school supplies for free. It helps offset the cost of supplies in tough economic times.
