Valdosta, GA - If you tried to make a donation to the Salvation Army of Valdosta on Tuesday, you probably saw a sign saying they were closed. According to the store's Co-Officer, that's because part of the roof of the North Ashley Street store caved in Monday afternoon, during the storm.

"Yesterday at about 2:30 in the afternoon, as the storms were coming through, we heard a loud bang in the back, and we had seen that the roof had fallen in. A bunch of water and stuff was coming in. It was pretty hectic for a little bit there", says Guy Nickum.

He says their back room and storage areas were filled with ankle deep water that ruined their electronics and other items that were stored away. But with all the damage in the back of the store, they did some rearranging and will be open again for business on Wednesday.

"The store will be open tomorrow. All of our employees will be here tomorrow at 9:00. The work on the store will take anywhere from 30 to 40 days. At which point, we will not be closed during that time. Getting in and out of the store should not be an issue, and we look forward to getting back and doing what we do", says Nickum.

Contractors on the scene say it appears that clogged gutters may be to blame for the incident.

Nickum adds traffic shouldn't be affected on North Ashley street during the repairs. Most of the construction will take place at the back of the store.
