The Thomas County Sheriff's office gave its annual safety recap To prepare school faculty and staff for their first day back on Monday. (8/8),

Explains Capt. Steve Jones, "Preparing the teachers ahead ot time, and having a procedure in place, makes it so much more orderly when you do have a situation come up; then, of course, doing the drills."

Some of the county schools actually put their lockdown practice into play when a gunman was on the loose last year (2010).

TCSO works closely with students to condition them to the sound of fire alarm bells and other safety commands.

The first day of class for the county is Monday, August 8.
