State Sen. Tim Golden (R-Valdosta) has been appointed as the new chairman of the Senate Retirement Committee and retained his position as Secretary of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee.
The Senate’s new Committee on Assignments also named Golden as Vice Chair of the Government Oversight Committee, which has broad responsibility for regular oversight of state government programs, and Secretary of the Insurance & Labor Committee, which handles issues on which he has provided leadership for many years, especially on workers’ compensation and drug-free workplace policies.
The veteran Senator will continue to serve on the influential Finance Committee, which handles tax-related legislation. On the Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for the annual state budget, Golden will continue to serve as an officer of the Committee and was named to the Transportation and Community Health subcommittees.
“I am very pleased with these new committee assignments,” Golden said. “The Retirement Committee is very important to the many public school teachers and state employees who live in Senate District 8. As Secretary of the Appropriations Committee, I will be in a vital position to influence final decisions on the state budget, especially on important matters such as transportation and community health.”
Golden is beginning his 13th session in the Senate, following eight years of service in the House of Representatives.
