Valdosta, Georgia --
The Valdosta Police Department issues two press release pertaining to two different shootings. VPD believes these two incidents are unrelated:
On October 8, 2010 at approximately 0230 hours, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Emergency Room at South Georgia Medical Center in reference to someone being shot. Officers made contact with Vontessa Young and Billy Davis who indicated that they were walking past the Ora Lee West Housing Complex, 610 E. Ann Street, when someone called out to Davis and then started shooting. Both Davis and Young ran, but Young was struck in the foot. According to Young, she was taken to SGMC by relatives. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department Investigations Division and the Valdosta-Lowndes Crime Laboratory responded to investigate. Detectives are following up on leads and the case is currently under investigation. There is no other information available at this time.
On October 9, 2010 at approximately 0225 hours, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the report of a man being shot outside the Heron Lake Apartments, 1800 Eastwind Road. Officer arrived and located Brian Wright, who had been shot once in the right shoulder. Wright was conscious and alert. He told officers that he was in his car and did not know who had shot him. EMS arrived and transported Wright to South Georgia Medical Center. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department Investigations Division and the Valdosta-Lowndes Crime Laboratory responded to investigate. The case is currently under investigation and no further information is available for release at this time.
