The Thomas County Sheriff's Office says an eighty-one year old woman was severely beaten in her home on Saturday.
Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call on Rankin Road in Boston and found Janie Clark suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment.
"She was in critical condition according to what they saw. Notified our investigators, our crime scene unit, and our investigators asked for assistance from Georgia Bureau of Investigation," said Steve Jones of the Thomas County Sheriff's Department.
Officers say they usually call in the GBI for death investigations.
"The extenuating circumstance here is that she was beaten so severely, and they really thought that she might pass away and she still may yet cause she's still in critical condition," said Steve Turner of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
Clark's son, fifty year old Eddie Dean Clark was found at the scene and questioned by deputies. Investigators say he told people at the home that he had hurt his mother.
"He was detained at the scene and later taken into custody and transported to the Thomas County Jail," said Steve Jones
Eddie Dean Clark faces charges of aggravated battery. Authorities say they are still trying to determine the motive in the attack and trying to figure out the details in the beating.
Officials say at this time the suspect remains in police custody, however, he has been transported to a different facility.
