For the first time, Georgia Trend Magazine has named South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta one of the top three hospitals for cardiac surgery.
The hospital's spine surgery and cardiology department overall ranked at number 10.
Healthgrades, a health care ratings organization, evaluated more than 200 Georgia hospitals.
"It validates the work that we do here for the employees and the physicians in our hospital authority and our leadership," said Randy Sauls, the chief operating officer for South Georgia Medical Center. "It also to me gives confidence to the community that SGMC extends high quality, expert care."
Seventy departments make up South Georgia Medical Center, which serves 15 counties in south Georgia and north Florida.
