Several downtown Donalsonville businesses are destroyed in an overnight blaze (4/4 - 4/5).
The Donalsonville Fire Chief says a bolt of lightening started the fire around one o'clock this morning.
The fast-moving blaze destroyed two beauty shops, a gym, a pool hall, a flower shop, a gift shop, a doctor's office, and an insurance agency before it was contained.
Steven Brook's father-in-law owns the flower store where the blaze is believed to have started.
Says Brook, "[The fire] just kind of spread more towards the north and then the wind came back towards the south. It's sad because the store was there for a long time."
No injuries have been reported.
Fire officials say though the blaze has been put out, crews are still on scene fighting smoldering embers that continue to flare up.
Donalsonville emergency workers say the large fire started around one o'clock this morning when lightning from overnight storms struck a building on Cherry Street and the flames quickly spread.
They say two beauty shops, a gym, a pool hall, a flower shop, a gift shop, and an insurance agency have been gutted by the fire.
No estimates of the damage caused have been released yet.
