GAINESVILLE, GA 12/12/2011 -- Alcohol sales started Sunday in Gainesville, where some patrons lined up outside Sammy's Package Store before 12:30 p.m., the earliest that sales can start by law.

Gainesville resident Danny Standridge said he is glad that Sunday sales were legalized. He said he thinks people will buy alcohol on Sundays even if stores do not sell it. Dacula also started Sunday sales this week.

Oakwood's City Council is scheduled to meet this evening to consider an ordinance that would allow the start of Sunday sales in
that city.
