Warner Robines, GA (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot and
killed during a scuffle with a Houston County sheriff's deputy.

Chief Deputy Billy Rape said the man was shot after he tried to
pull a weapon out of a coat pocket during the scuffle Monday
morning.

Rape said sheriff's deputies had responded to a 911 call of a
burglary in progress, and a man was spotted walking in a nearby
pecan orchard.

Rape said the deputy ordered the man to remove his hands from
his pocket, and a scuffle ensued.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to
investigate -- standard procedure when a deputy is involved in a
shooting. Craig Rotter, assistant special agent in charge of the
GBI's Perry office, said a gun was found near the man's body.
