Thomasville, GA - Thomas County Sheriff's Investigations Unit was just leaving the scene of a homicide near Ochlocknee, GA when we arrived. 55-year-old Sharlene Steadman was found dead in her home at 124 Lady Bug Lane early Sunday morning.
"What appears to be some type of an assault, we've not determined at this point the exact cause of death, but it is was definitely an assault," said Captain Steven Jones, Thomas County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson.
According to TCSO Steadman suffered fatal injuries to her upper torso which lead authorities to believe this was a crime and not an accident.
"Our investigations division and crime scene division as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and even the DA's office were out at some point yesterday," said Captain Jones.
Authorities said they're following up on strong leads and have interviewed several people, but they still don't have a named suspect.
Lady Bug Lane is located off of Highway 202 and a neighbor we spoke with who wanted to remain anonymous said the case has shocked the folks in the area.
"Something happen that bad that close to home kind of unnerves you a little bit, but I hate it."
Neighbors in the area said incidents like this don't normally happen in their neighborhood. They said when they saw the flashing police lights on their quiet street they became concerned.
"My neighbor called me about three o'clock in the morning and I looked out and there were ambulances and deputies and investigation units," said Anonymous neighbor.
We should mention Steadman did have a run in with the law back in March. She was arrested by Thomasville Police Department for embezzling $54,000 from Dixon's Pest Services in Thomasville. The homicide is still under investigation and we'll update you with more when information becomes available.
