Thomasville, GA- As thousands of people in our area celebrate New Year's Eve, Thomas County Sheriff's Deputies want to remind people to put safety first; especially when it comes to firing guns.
Captain Steve Jones with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says every New Year's Eve they receive dozens of calls about gun shots being fired in the air.
Officials want to remind people that celebratory gun shots are taken very seriously.
"What goes up, must come down and shooting a firearm up into the air, that projectile has to land somewhere," Captain Jones said. "So please, do not use guns to celebrate. We don't want to risk hurting someone or risk losing your gun rights forever."
Violators could be charged with reckless conduct, which is a felony.
