The Thomas County Humane Society has been approved for a five-year animal control contract for $250,000 annually.

Special Photo Pearl is gentle and responds well to people. This medium-size white lab is beautiful and hoping to find a new forever home. To see Pearl, ask for 012111/228 (G73) at the Henry County Animal Control Shelter, at 527 Ga. Highway 20/81, McDonough. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m., to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. Call (770) 288-7387 (PETS).

Council members say last year the organization asked for an $80,000 increase for the 2011 year or services would be stopped.

Instead of the county starting up its own animal control organization, commissioners voted earlier this week to add an additional three thousand dollars to the previous contract of 247,000 dollars.

They asked for 80,000 and only got 3,000. I assume they are going to shut their doors? 3,000 is not near enough!
