The drug squad says Thomas County prison inmate Ricky Clayton tried to smuggle the drugs behind bars after visiting hours on Sunday afternoon (2/20).

Agents and prison staff say they are constantly on alert for prohibited items brought to inmates by friends and family.

Says Narcotics commander Kevin Lee, "If people get drugs, cell phones, or other things, they can make a lot of money. When people start making money off selling these items, then you have a problem with them getting beaten up, [and having] money taken from them."

The incident marks the first time an inmate has tried to smuggle ecstasy in to the Thomas County prison.

Prison staff say tobacco is the most frequently smuggled good, now that the facility has adopted a strict 'no smoking' policy.
