Area law enforcement and fire-fighting agencies set up their emergency reponse 'nerve center' in Thomas County to keep roads clear, and drivers safe.
They say though no tornadoes touched down in Thomasville, keeping the roadways free of fallen trees and other obstacles is just as important to the safety of the community.
Says Thomas County Fire Chief Chris Jones, "We brought [the agencies] together to try and manage any downed power lines, trees, or anything of that nature ... basically to be sure that all of our roads are open and people can travel as they normally do."
Emergency responders say winds and rain are expected through early evening.
They caution people to drive carefully until the front passes through.
