The Thomas County Sheriff's Office says a back tax auction will be held for properties with taxes owed from 2009.
TCSO says though they take a great effort to organize, the tax auctions do regain a lot of the money that's owed to the government.
Capt. Steve Jones is the event's auctioneer. He says, "Last year [the department] collected almost one million dollars in back taxes from 2006, 2007, and 2008. It's unfortunate that we have to have a tax sale."
TCSO says the properties range from pieces of personal property, to buildings and homes, to pieces of undeveloped land.
The public sale will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on April 5.
Those who owe back taxes have until the day of the sale to pay them off and have their properties removed from the auction list.
