TU staff say enrollment for their new physician's assistant program opened this semester (Winter 2011) for students who are interested in the career.
They say the program, which involves four years of undergrad work, plus grad school, is sponsored by Archbold Memorial in conjunction with Philadelphia College in Pennsylvania.
Says TU's Math and Science Department Chair Karen Burgess:
"It's exciting, actually, because we're able to keep residents here in the local community to serve ... and Archbold and Thomas University have a complete mission to serve the community in the medical field."
PAs practice under a licensed doctor and have the expertise to work in the emergency room, as well as conduct exams.
While no students have enrolled yet, university staff say they are optimistic about the success of the program.
