Thomasville, GA - City officials have launched a new initiative in hopes of making Thomasville a more beautiful place to live. Today marked the first day of the beautification project.
Officials say over the next week they'll be going around town, removing all signs that are illegally placed in the right-of-ways of streets. They say the goal is to not only protect drivers and pedestrians, but to also make downtown more appealing to the eyes!
Jerry Pionessa, City of Thomasville Engineer: "The larger impact is for the beautification of the city. It takes away from Thomasville's face as we have visitors; this is ahead of our Fall tourism season so we want to have it look the best for all of the visitors."
Crews are repairing many of the sidewalks downtown as part of the beautification effort, as well. Officials say the cleanup effort is expected to take about one week to complete.
