The Thomas County Historical Society held its annual meeting today (1/30)

Members of group gathered at the Thomas County History Museum to talk about days gone by and discuss how they affect the future.

The meeting's main lecture was presented by the President of the Georgia Historical Society, Dr. Todd Groce, and recalled the history of two Thomasville citizens who served as Confederate leaders during the Civil War in Union-occupied Tennessee.

Goce stressed the importance of history in guiding the world as we know it: "If you personally had amnesia, and you didn't know who you were, and you couldn't make decisions about what to do, and where to go, and how to live your life, that's like people who don't understand history."

The Thomas County Historical Society says it's dedicated to the preservation of south Georgia history for future generations.

Members say they enjoy studying the past because they often find, despite living differently, people were very much the same as they are in present times.
