Thomasville, GA -- April 16, 2012

The usually quiet Abbey Lake apartment complex was awakened by the sound of gunfire over the weekend.

"Sunday morning at approximately 2 a.m., officers were dispatched to 2005 E Pinetree Blvd., also known as the Abbey Lake apartments," said Lt. Eric Hampton of the Thomasville Police Department.

The phone call to dispatch from the apartment immediately indicated something was not right.

"Basically it was a female saying somebody may have had a seizure, was on the floor. During the call, the individual got up and brandished a couple butcher knives," explained agent Steve Turner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Police say Travis Snyder was the man with the knives. GBI says When he had the weapons, the Thomasville Police Department had already arrived.

"He came out of the apartment in the breezeway where the officers were ouside of p16 at the Abbey lake apartments, and the officer had to use force to stop him," said Turner.

"The officer had to pull that firearm and at some point the suspect was struck by one round," said Hampton.

It is standard protocol for GBI to investigate anytime an officer has to use his weapon. Both officers involved are on administrative leave.
