One community organization came together to give back to a local soup kitchen.
The Civic Garden Club in Thomasville surprised the Thomasville Rescue Mission with a two hundred dollar donation. The garden club said that they pick a non-profit every year to donate to, and this year they felt that the Rescue Mission was most deserving.
"Well there are many worthy organizations that are doing good things, but Mother Douglas is a constant, you can see instant results because people get a warm meal at lunch," said Civic Garden Club member Lauretta Gibbs.
"We need finances, because we give the food to the people. But the support comes from the community, and this will be a great, big help to us," said Erlean Douglas, the president of the Rescue Mission, about the donation.
The mission provides warm meals for about 200 people every day. Douglas, or "Mother Douglas" as she is known, admitted to not even knowing about the civic garden club but was overjoyed by the donation.
