Thomasville Resident Jane Atkins is packing her bags and leaving.
"My last electric bill was 170 dollars which I find really expensive," said Thomasville resident Jane Atkins.
She's not running from the utility increase, in fact she's moving from an apartment into a home . On Tuesday residents like Atkins will see a five to seven percent increase in their water service and sewer rates.
City officials said there will also be rate increases for cable and internet provided through the city in March, 2011 but business owners in the area said rate increases like these have a domino effect.
"Especially in a restaurant business every time something goes up, gas starts to go up the people we buy from they immediately raise the prices," said Thomasville Restaurant Owner Ben Golden.
City officials said the small hike is to fix or replace equipment that may break down something Golden said he has mixed feelings about.
" I understand what the rates are for and everything but I don't agree now's a good time," said Golden.
City officials said cable and internet provided by the city will increase by a dollar in March.
