[UPDATE] 12/4 at 4:31 p.m. --

This year, Blazer Dining brought in 1,945 pounds of food and $502.38 in donations.

Over the last five years, it's helped collect 10,131 pounds and $2,922.

VSU's Blazer Dining committee and Sodexo encourages the community to donate canned foods to fight hunger.

Drop-off sites are located at VSU's 15 dining halls and two convenient stores.

Every ten pounds of food feeds a family of four for a day, according to Second Harvest of South Georgia.

Over the last four years, VSU's Canned Food Drive has generated more than 8,000 pounds of food.

"This is a chance for us to give back to the community that gives so much to us," said Rich Yokeley, the general manager of Blazer Dining. "On a daily basis, we serve thousands of nutritious meals to our customers while hundreds of people in the community are still fighting hunger."

Anyone can donate cans at Blazer dining centers until Friday.

Students who donate at least six cans either Tuesday or Friday, will get a free lunch.
