Many students and American Red Cross technicians filled the Bailey Science Center to boost the blood supply in south Georgia.
It's the biggest drive of its kind at VSU, and this year the event is sponsored by the Blazers.
Every VSU football player was required to recruit six people to donate blood.
"We need to collect blood because everyday somebody is going through an operation, a car accident and they're in dire need of blood," said Howard Dillard, a mobile unit technician with the American Red Cross. He added, " We don't want to be short when it comes to that need."
For the two-day event, the blood drive's goal is to collect 800 units.
Officials say they're close to reaching that mark.
If you wish to donate blood or platelets, call the American Red Cross at (800) 448-3543.
