Valdosta State hosted area organizations at the Bailey Science Center for its Inaugural Volunteer Service Fair.

More than 25 agencies, from campus clubs to community organizations like the South Side Library, set-up shop to recruit students.

The fair's motto is "Service First."

"Giving back is essential," said Monique Byrd, the volunteer service coordinator for the event. She added, "And they can continue to be involved because if they start out at an early age, they'll continue to do it as they get older, and it'll be instilled in our youth."

This community outreach fair is the first of its kind at VSU.

Organizers say they hope to make it an annual event.
