Burglaries may soon be a thing of the past for residents of Valdosta.
The Valdosta Police Department recently created a new unit whose main responsibility will be to diminish and solve burglaries.
Chief Brian Childress says although Valdosta's crime rates are better than the national average, he wants to ensure the number of burglaries reduces year after year.
"What we're hoping to do here is, we're hoping to do a series of things. We're hoping to create a burglary unit that's more specialized, that understands burglaries more. We're hoping to solve more burglaries, and we're also hoping to reduce burglaries," said Childress.
Childress says he hopes to reduce the number of burglaries in Valdosta by utilizing the new burglary unit, officers in the field, and also new technology that can actually predict where burglaries may occur.
