Valdosta, GA - Valdosta police have charged a middle school student with battery against a teacher.
VPD says it happened at J.L. Newbern Middle School late last week. Charges were filed Monday.
The 14 year old student was in a fight with another student and the teacher stepped-in to break it up. That's when the student threw an object that hit the teacher and injured her arm. It's unclear just what the object was. Police believe the student was aiming the object at the other student.
The student will have to appear before the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Valdosta City Schools released this statement:
“Safety is always our primary concern in Valdosta City Schools. We are dedicated to providing a safe and orderly educational environment for our staff and students. Students who violate our rules will be subject to sanctions spelled out in the Valdosta City Schools Code of Student Conduct,” said E. Martin Roesch, Superintendent for Valdosta City Schools.
