Valdosta, GA - The Valdosta Police Department will have license check points set up around the city, and Commander Robinson, with the VPD Patrol Bureau says, officers will also be on the look out for those who are texting and driving.

He says his department is doing all they can to make sure everyone is being safe for the New Year holiday.

"We like to take precautions. New Years Eve is always a festive occasion, more people are out, more people are out drinking. We encourage people not to drink and drive. We encourage people to take alternative transportation. We just want to make sure everyone has fun and arrives home safely."

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol will also be having license check points throughout South Georgia.
