Valdosta, GA - Valdosta residents can give their in-put on major construction projects for the next three years.
The Valdosta - Lowndes Metropolitan Planning Organization is hosting an open house Tuesday. You can stop by anytime to their offices at 327 W. Savannah Ave right in downtown Valdosta between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Of course you don't have to wait for the open house. You can submit your thoughts through September 3rd. Comments can be submitted via phone at 229-333-5277, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by fax at 229-333-5312.
A copy of the plan is available at libraries in Berrien, Brooks, Lanier and Lowndes counties and on the website www.sgrc.us/transportation.
Projects include interchange work at Exits 2, 22 and 29 on Interstate 75 at a combined cost of more than $30 million. Federal dollars will cover $24 million and state dollars will pay the rest.
Locally funded projects include the widening of Jerry Jones Drive from Gornto Rd. to Oak St, at a cost of $500,000; the widening of Forrest Street from Park Avenue to Bemiss Road at a cost of $7.2 million, and additional work at I-75 exits 22 and 29, at a local cost of $2.4 million with an additional $24 million in federal funds and $6 million in state funds.
