A Valdosta resident is doing her part to help the homeless. On Wednesday she thanked a local grocery store and the owner for helping her along the way.
Margie Guyton is known as Ms. Cookie around town. Her non-profit company is called Love In Action With Compassion, Inc. Everyday Ms. Cookie feeds the needy and helps them with any issues that may arise. From being sick, to cold, to needing a ride to the bus stop, Cookie does what she can for the homeless of Valdosta and works exclusively through donations from the community.
The CEO of Mr. B's Market, Jesse Billingsley, is being honored and thanked by Ms. Cookie for donating $50 every month towards her efforts. With that money, she shops at Mr. B's Market to buy groceries and items to make food for the people she serves.
"She came by originally asking for a donation out of the blue and we were glad to help her with that and since then we've come to know her and love and appreciate what she does for the community," said Billingsley.
"It's a blessing for me, because I tell you in times, of need in trying to cook for 35 people, and to have him say 'Yes,' it has been a blessing for me, it really has," said Cookie. "It has come in a great time of need."
Billingsley was honored with a cake and plaque for his donations. Cookie also said she will be thanking other people throughout the month who have helped her.
Love In Action With Compassion, Inc. is looking for a new engine for a van to better access the people they help. They are in need of nearly $2,000 to fix the van and ask anyone who wants to make a donation for the van, or any other donations to help the homeless, call 229-548-0525.
