The Valdosta Junior Woman's club named Sementha Mathews as the 2011 Woman of the year on Saturday.
Mathews is the public information officer for the city.
She oversees the city's award-winning web site and communication strategies and helped organize 17 celebrated community events during the city's 150Th milestone year.
"I feel humbled and honored to represent women of our community, who are working even balancing very demanding jobs, family life and still have time to give back to their community," said Mathews.
Mathews received a silver platter for her achievement and will receive a trophy which represents all the women recognized by the Valdosta Junior Woman's Club since 1957.
