The Valdosta Fire Department is sending more than $15,000 to the Georgia Burn Foundation.

Firefighters raised the money from their Give Burns the Boot and Boston Butts fundraisers.

Area children injured in fires will head to a summer camp thanks to the donation.

"Each year just those kids who are injured from burns go to camp for a week and have the time of their lives," says Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice. "There folks don't look at them strange or differently."

The fundraiser also helps to cover accommodation costs for parents whose kids undergo surgery at Georgia's two burn centers.

An area fire department is raising money for children who've suffered burn injuries.

The Valdosta Fire Department has sold out of 138 Boston butts for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

All proceeds help send young burn victims to summer camp in Winder, Georgia.

"When a child is burned, it leaves some visible scars," says J.D. Rice, Valdosta Fire Chief. "And they go to school and a lot of times they're looked at strange or differently or treated differently and they get a lot of insecurities. So, we have a camp just for them."
