Valdosta, Georgia- July 10, 2012

There’s still time to vote in the City of Valdosta 2012 People’s Choice Photo Contest. Citizens have until July 18 to vote on the entries displayed in the Tillman Gallery at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts.

The annual photo contest, which brought in over 100 beautiful photos taken within the Valdosta city limits, is sponsored by the City of Valdosta and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. Photos were received this year in five categories observing the “Magic of Cities” theme:

§ Lights, Camera, Action -- People expressing art
§ Over the Rainbow -- This beautiful city
§ Animal House -- Furred and feathered friends
§ It Takes a Village -- People living life
§ Taking Care of Business -- A city at work

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle will announce the first place winners and honorable mentions in each of the five categories, as well as the overall Best in Show Award, at a reception scheduled for Friday, July 20, at the arts center.

The event allows citizens to capture the beauty of our community, while also providing a wonderful venue for other citizens to appreciate the work. The photos have been on display in the Tillman Gallery at the arts center since June 11 and will remain on display through Aug. 3, after which time they will be part of a traveling display in various parts of the city.

Citizens are encouraged to visit the arts center to view and vote for their favorite photos. For additional information, contact the city’s Public Information Office at (229) 259-3548 or the arts center at (229) 247-2787.
