There's no end in sight yet Wednesday for water use restrictions in Valdosta.

City leaders put the restrictions in place due to mechanical issues at the water treatment plant. The hope was repairs would have been completed Monday, then the restrictions would be lifted. But it's unclear when it will happen.

In the meantime, Valdosta residents are urged to conserve water by not watering their lawns and other measures.

City leaders want to remind residents that the water is safe to drink.

Outdoor Water Restrictions Continue in the City of Valdosta
May 2, 2012

The City of Valdosta is utilizing all resources to restore one of the water pumps that failed at the city’s Water Treatment Plant last week.

Although one temporary pump system was quickly placed into service, the Outdoor Water Restriction will remain in effect until the second temporary pump system is cleared for service. Once the second temporary pump system is placed into service, the city will reevaluate outdoor restrictions.

The city apologizes for the inconvenience of the Outdoor Water Restrictions; however, it hopes to have the pump capabilities restored as soon as possible. Citizens are encouraged to continue to use water only for their daily essential needs.

Valdosta Residents Urged To Conserve Water

- Valdosta, Ga. - April 29, 2012 -

The City of Valdosta was still under a water restriction Sunday.

Citizens are urged to conserve water by not watering their lawns and by doing things like taking shorter showers. It's because Valdosta's Water Treatment Plant is battling mechanical issues with its pumps.
City Officials hope to lift the restriction Monday.

City officials want everyone to know the water is safe to drink. They say it's very important to conserve water during peak usage hours in the mornings and evenings.

Valdosta, GA -- April 27, 2012 --

The City of Valdosta sincerely thanks the citizens who responded quickly to its request today to cease all outdoor irrigation and non-essential use of water. Currently, there are no water quality issues in the system, and the water provided by the city is safe for all purposes.

Effective immediately, the City of Valdosta has issued an outdoor water restriction suspending all outdoor water uses for 72-hours, or until further notice. This will help maintain water storage levels until the pumps are fully repaired. At this time, water levels at the city's above ground storage tanks and elevated storage tanks remain steady. In addition, water pressure leaving the treatment plant remains normal.

Water levels in the storage tanks over the next several hours will be a key indicator if nonessential and outdoor water use restrictions are being observed by citizens. The mornings and evenings are when water demands are highest, as these peaks coincide with normal household and business activities and are also the times most outdoor irrigation takes place. Conservation during these peak times is essential while these pumps are being repaired.

By Saturday afternoon, a temporary replacement pump will be operational to meet system needs.

The city continues to encourage all customers to use water only for their daily essential needs. Additional information, if necessary, will be posted to the city of Valdosta website at www.valdostacity.com.
