At Valdosta City Hall, Mayor Fretti signed a proclamation designating December 15 as Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day.
The hope is it will inform our vets and their families of the benefits available to them and the best ways to access those services.
"No benefits are automatic," said Pete Wheeler, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Veterans. "They go to know about it., and they've got to apply for it. And when they leave here, many of them will be receiving many benefits from the Virginia federal government for the first time."
Veterans Benefits Day will take place December 15 at the Rainwater Conference Center.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., agencies offering these services will be on hand.
