Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, a man pulled a gun on Shareef Wright, 22, at his apartment complex at 1620 E. East Park Avenue, according to Lt. Aaron Kirk, with the Valdosta Police Department.

Officers say Wright was walking to his car, when a man he describes as tall and slender wearing black clothing tried to rob him.

Police say Wright was shot in the stomach before the suspect fled the scene.

"I just can't believe something like that can happen cause it coulda been me, it coulda been my neighbor, it could have been anybody," said Stephen Gill, the victim's neighbor, who also lives at the complex. " And I think stuff like this needs to be stopped in the community."

Wright is expected to make a full recovery.

And VPD says they have no suspects in custody.
