Valdosta, GA - A Christmas eve dispute turns deadly in Valdosta. A woman is dead and her live-in boyfriend will spend Christmas in jail.

Eyewitness News Reporter La'Tasha Givens went to Valdosta and she's here in the newsroom with the latest.

This early morning homocide was the last thing neighbors thought they would wake up to. People WCTV talked to say they are shocked that a woman they have known for years could wind up losing her life like this

It all happened at a home on New Hudson Street around midnight. Crime tape still flutters on the walkway out front. Valdosta Police say when they arrived on scene, they found 47-year old Charlotte Grant badly beaten. She died at the hospital soon afterwards.

Her live-in boyfriend, 58-year old Kenneth Brown, was spotted blocks away - he's charged with murder and police say there may have been as many as four other people at the home who saw it happen.

Valdosta, GA - On December 24, 2010 at approximately 12:04 am, Valdosta Police Department officers responded to a call at a residence in the 600 block of New Hudson Street in reference to a person being injured during a domestic dispute. Upon arrival at the residence, police located the victim, 47-year old Charlotte Grant. Grant had serious injuries to her upper body and head area from being struck with an object used as an offensive weapon. Grant was transported by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center where she died a short time later.

Witnesses on scene were able to identify the offender and give a physical description and his direction of travel as he left the area shortly after the assault. A few minutes after the offender description was given out, Valdosta Police Department Patrol Officers located the offender, Kenneth Brown, 58-year old Valdosta resident, a short distance away from the scene of the assault. It is believed that Brown and Grant resided together on New Hudson Street. The weapon believed to have been used in the assault has been recovered by law enforcement officers. Brown was arrested and subsequently charged with the homicide of Charlotte Grant. There is the possibility of additional criminal charges on Brown. Brown is currently being held at the Lowndes County Jail.

Valdosta Police Department patrol personnel, detective personnel and crime laboratory personnel all responded to the scene and did an exceptional job of working together to quickly solve this crime and apprehend the offender.
