[UPDATE] 4/14 at 8:01 p.m. --

The fire has been ruled accidental, according to Remerton Fire Chief Ronald Woods.

An overnight fire destroys a favorite Valdosta restaurant.

Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Remerton fire officials responded to the Zaxby's on Baytree Road, according to Fire Chief Ronald Woods.

Firefighters say the entire back half of the restaurant was engulfed in flames and they believe it may have started in the kitchen.

"On arrival on scene, we had smoke and flames visible coming out of the windows and some getting through the roof," said Woods. "So, we immediately called in for backup from Lowndes County Fire Rescue."

Investigators battled the fire for more than two hours.

Officials say no injuries were reported.

And more information is expected after the fire marshal completes his investigation.

The fire was not an accident. Whomever was responsible for the investigation was lazy and/or incompetent. The store was set to close down for 3-4 weeks for renovation. The employees were going to be put out of work with no support. The fire was not an accident. I hope the three former employees are eventually brought to justice.
