Valdosta, GA - City leaders are working to make Valdosta more friendly for walkers and bikers.
They're expanding the "Azalea City Trail" from almost three miles to four. Right now the trail heads east to west. But by bringing the trail north past the Bazemore-Hyder football stadium they can help accommodate tailgaters headed to Wildcats and Blazers games. Eventually it will extend all the way to the library.
"It allows them to travel back and forth from their homes to the games and to the parks along with the community when before they used to be walking on a very wide road," said Jim Martinez, project manager.
Unfortunately the trail won't likely be ready for football season. That means tailgaters will have to put up with construction. The Wildcats have their first game next Friday.
