At Walmart on Norman Drive, the Valdosta Fire Department hosted its third annual "Shop with a Firefighter" event.
The program helps children whose belongings were destroyed in fires this year.
Each child was given $100 to spend on gifts for themselves and immediate family.
"Sometimes when you have a fire that completely destroys everything that you have, it's real hard to get started again," said Chris Feuerstein, with the Valdosta Fire Department, who helped organize the event. "And so this is an insurance that those kids will have some type of Christmas."
More than 10 firefighters chaperoned Shop with a Firefighter.
All the money comes from donations.
